• Scrum Lesson 04 – Scrum Processes and Phases

    Scrum processes address the specific activities and flow of a scrum project. In total, there are 19 processes which are grouped into 5 phases. Each process requires some inputs, uses some tools, and produces some outputs. Some of these inputs, tools, and outputs are mandatory while others are optional. It depends on a particular project, organization, or industry. In this lesson, we’ll give you an overview of the scrum phases and processes.

    Phase 1: Initiate

    The Initiate phase includes the following 6 processes:

    1. Create project vision
    2. Identify scrum master and stakeholders
    3. Form scrum team
    4. Develop epics
    5. Create prioritized product backlog
    6. Conduct release planning

    Phase 2: Plan and Estimate

    The Plan and Estimate phase includes the following 5 processes:

    1. Create user stories
    2. Approve, estimate, and commit user stories
    3. Create tasks
    4. Estimate tasks
    5. Create sprint backlog

    Phase 3: Implement

    The implement phase includes the following 3 processes

    1. Create deliverables
    2. Conduct daily standup meeting
    3. Groom prioritized product backlog

    Phase 4: Review and Retrospect

    The review and retrospect phase includes the following 3 processes:

    1. Convene scrum of scrums
    2. Demonstrate and validate sprint
    3. Retrospect sprint

    Phase 5: Release

    The release phase includes the following 2 processes:

    1. Ship deliverables
    2. Retrospect project

    In the upcoming lessons, we’ll explore all of these phases and processes in great detail. But before that, we’ll explore the principles and aspects as well.
